I am available to host lectures, workshops, private gatherings and retreats both nationally as well as Internationally as a holistic eco-beauty expert and consultant. NEWS: Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa closes one door & pursues NEW DIRECTION

Dearest Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa friends:

I trust all of you are doing amazing and this email is finding you with beautiful smiles. I would like to take a moment and acknowledge each and everyone of you who have touched my life and heart in your own special way. I am most grateful to your continuous support & belief in my vision as without you, I would not be sharing the following news with you.

As most of you already know, I opened the doors to my spa which was called "Derma Hair Care LLC" on June 27th 2006 and what an amazing journey these past 4 years has been. Here is a quick overview to share with you:

* In less than one year of opening the center, my spa received the most amazing recognition by Green America as the 1st holistic & green medi spa in the USA after months of strict screening.

* Soon after that it also received the Gold Certification from GenGreen Business as a recognized green company as well as it supported by Live Green as a socially responsible green company.

* It went through a name change from Derma Hair Care LLC, to Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa to better capture the essence of my practice that focused on respecting the health of ourselves and the wellness of the environment in every business decision.

* Within this time, holeco® life, my private eco-conscious “rooted beauty” product line, introduced its very first product, the mineral foundation sunblock brush, to the market at the Designers and Artist Show in LA for their Green Event. My company was one of only 7 eco-cosmetic companies invited to participate at this event.

* Following the launch of the mineral powders, an entire line of products (personal care, mineral make up, aromatherapy oils, baby care, raw chocolates, soy candles & accessories) was created by holeco® life project to help raise the level of consciousness towards honoring one’s health, wellness of the planet as well as making a contribution to the lives of those in need. Thus, I dedicated every single product to introducing International Lifeline Fund's efforts of Clean Water & Fuel Efficient Stove projects in developing countries in Africa. Holeco life project is about amazing women that have come in alignment with me as a community to help other women in need in other communities.

* Holeco® was blessed to find its perfect match, Flor Escapes, as its wellness destination partner to bring complete wellness destination retreats to its clients & teach educational workshops in Mexico.

* After 2 years of searching for a space, Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa finally moved from Falls Church VA to Washington DC in September 2009 & joined National Integrated Health Associates NIHA to help bring complete wellness to clients' needs.

* My center changed its slogan to “a holistic, eco-conscious medi spa & healing center” to once again come to a place of surrender of what the underlying reason is that people come to see us for treatments: HEALING.

All I can say is that I am beyond grateful to all the blessings, teachings, lessons, challenges and love that has surrounded me and my amazing teammates (Nattasha, Amanda, Rachel, Guang, Anita, Angela, Tracy, Atieno, Lara, Evelyn, Kristen, Amy & Sarah) during these times. We have had the pleasure of having the most amazing clients who have supported us and believed in our way of looking at holistic beauty. I feel so humbled & grateful for everything. As I have grown from the inside out during the last 4 years, lots of shifts has also been taken place on the outside as well to help match what has been taking place on the inside. During the last year, spending time with my teacher Suchinta Abhayaratna Th.D has been one of the most amazing gifts I have ever received and I have come to learn & feel that a greater purpose in life is coming my way.

My dear friends, that time has come for me at last in the form of the most peaceful guidance within. In order to honor my true path, I have surrendered to this amazing powerful message within and have chosen to close one door to make room for the next chapter in life. This means, I have decided to close Holeco® Wellness Medi Spa in late August & transition into going completely full time with the holeco® life product line to help educate the world through the eye of holistic & non-toxic beauty that stems with our roots (“rooted beauty”) to create positive impact in our world. The last day that we will be seeing clients will be on August 26th, and we will be packing up on that weekend. Thus, if you have left over treatment from your package, I highly recommend that you schedule your appointment immediately as we will be very busy in the next 6 weeks making time to see everyone for their last visit. I am completely aware this news may be of total surprise to many of you. It was also a bit surprising to me as well, and at the same time very peaceful & powerful when I felt this knock within myself that indicated "the time has come for me to serve a higher purpose in life". My staff has been tremendously supportive of this transition and I will continue to work with them in a different formats. I will take the opportunity that closing the spa will give me to spend precious time with my husband & my boys: Kiyan and Nevan who continue to inspire me to grow more every day. In addition, I will also use it to further grow and nurture the holeco® life product line to its highest purpose by facilitating holistic eco-beauty workshops around the country. As holeco® life grows, I can really see where it is heading, and it is a beautiful place where positive change is taking place with higher consciousness & unity of beings together.

Since my product line is a wonderful match with the philosophy of nature, I will be doing more work in the West Coast (consulting, providing holistic workshops, public speaking and more) and will be especially be busy with my new products made specifically for young girls ages 7-13 called "holeco® girls" which will involve education for both privileged and underprivileged young females. Details on this will be announced later on in August. Great new testimony from Roberta! She came to see us and our friends at TAVO and I am so happy to share her beautiful words with you.

"I would like to thank the teams at TAVO Total Health and Holeco Wellness Medi-Spa for my incredible "Week of Healing"! Before coming down to Chevy Chase from my home in Milford, CT, I was dealing with a lot of pain and tightness due to 4 herniated lumbar discs, spinal stenosis, arthritis, and malalignment of the spine. I was having a lot of trouble with mobility, wasn't sleeping well, and had very little energy. An epidural shot 2 weeks before my visit to Maryland did nothing to help my pain.

After 3 days of intensive treatment at TAVO and an incredibly rejuvenating & deeply healing day at Holeco, I feel like I'm on the path to being well again! When I drove the 6 hours down to Maryland from Connecticut, I was in a great deal of pain and discomfort. Our Holistic Wellness Retreat to Malinalco Mexico

Words cannot simply describe the enrich experience we shared at our journey

to Malinalco Mexico, a small town with such high female energy surrounded

by mountains where one can truly experience a culture at a local level. Listening to the words of an Aztec Worrier who carried the souls of his ancestors in his blood & elegantly shed a light into his world, warmed up my heart, especially when it was touched by his hand filled with inner fire. Meditating at the sacred ground in Xochicalco and learning about our animal guides was completely a blessing I will never forget.

True gratitude to Lillian Aviles Chapa of Flor Escapes for the gift of OVERstanding the value of holistic retreat and all the details surrounding it. Lillian's vision & eye for an transformable experience is a GIFT. Taking our three person team on the road for the first time, testing our connection & the work that we do, has been priceless. This is a message to all, not just the moms that are making
all the daily household decisions, but to dads & teens as well, to take an active role in learning what you are putting on your body & how it is impacting your well-being.

PREVENTION is the best intervention, but how come we (in America) are so focused on "CURE" rather than not getting sick in the first place? FDA Globalization Act of 2008

What is it?

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce released a Discussion Draft of the "Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act of 2008."

The “Discussion Draft" is meant to stimulate discussion about how to provide adequate funding and authority for FDA to ensure safety of . . food, drug, medical device, and cosmetic” products.

How does it effect small companies making hand crafted products like mine?

While the bulk of the document addresses the safety of foods and drugs, there is a section on cosmetics that, if enacted as it is currently stated, will have an adverse effect on any cosmetic manufacturer - and that includes all of us who make any products that fall under the FDA definition of "cosmetic".

What does this all mean?

As it stands, the act would require small cosmetics companies to pay thousands of dollars a year in registration fees and comply with burdensome paperwork that would serve only to put them out of business. It is designed to make big name cosmetic company stay in business.

How can you help?

Copy and paste the following Petition text and send it to Virgil Miller at virgil.miller@mail.house.gov. Mr. Miller is a Professional Staff Member with the House Energy & Commerce Committee. Make your voice count!

Petition Text:
We are the owners of small cosmetics companies, and the customers who love their products.We understand that laws must be in place to protect everyone from unsafe products, but we are outraged by the Draft Legislation that would require small cosmetics companies to pay thousands of dollars a year in registration fees and comply with burdensome paperwork that would serve only to put them out of business.
If passed the legislation would deny thousands of families the ability to earn an honest living, and also deprive consumers of the variety of cosmetics and personal care products available to choose from.

We oppose this law and condemn any companies that support it as being interested only in creating an unlevel playing field where small and family owned businesses will be forced from the marketplace before they even get a chance to start out. We urge you, as our representatives in Congress, to stop this law which would serve only to make it even harder for families to support themselves. We call instead for a real and meaningful discussion about how Congressional goals can be accomplished without enacting unfair laws that make it impossible for small businesses to survive.
In signing this Petition, we formally request that the Discussion Draft of the FDA Globalization Act of 2008 be marked up so that the legitimate concerns of small businesses and the consumers they serve can be translated into reasonable laws that protect consumers without also killing small businesses by making them pay unfair fees and comply with burdensome paperwork.

Starving Cancer Cells by cutting down on Acidic Food & increasing your Alkaline Food

Cancer Update
Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic,environmental, food, and lifestyle factors. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract, and can cause organ damage, like liver,kidneys, heart, lungs, etc. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However, prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.

CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color, try sea salt instead; and, a better alternative is 'Bragg's Aminos'. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastrointestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A Meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones, and parasites; and, all are especially harmful to people with cancer. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most = vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at 104 degrees F (40 degrees C). AVOID coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. WATER - best to drink purified or filtered water to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic so avoid it altogether. MEAT - protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body'skiller cells to destroy the cancer cells. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-essence,Essiac, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFA's, etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

Cancer is a disease of the MIND, BODY, and SPIRIT. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness, and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr.. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant Ramen Noodles, and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper . The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

Excessive Botox Use Cause for ConcernIs there any body part where doctors aren't trying injections of Botox? Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified form of the toxin that causes food poisoning, was originally approved as a medical treatment for two eye muscle disorders in 1989, and as a cosmetic remedy for frown lines in 2002. Within months, it became a fashion "must" among the rich and famous... and next thing we knew, Botox parties were all the rage.Botox injections are now used to treat medical problems all over the body, including excessive underarm perspiration, migraines and urinary incontinence, in addition to the continuous introduction of new cosmetic uses. Only a few of these applications are FDA-approved and though "off-label" uses are perfectly legal, they're not necessarily safe. I've spoken to a number of dermatologists about the use of Botox, and they're generally positive. However, given that to be effective Botox must often be injected multiple times, their cavalier attitude seems inappropriate. I asked Mark Stengler, ND, author of Bottom Line Natural Healing newsletter and author of The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies (Bottom Line Books) for his thoughts on the widespread use of this known toxin... and not surprisingly, he's concerned. In his view, what's most problematic is the fact that the safety profile of Botox is based primarily on its use over short periods and in low doses -- but that's not how it's typically being used. This is a toxin that should be used with great caution, he warns, since there's much we still don't know about it.

APPROVED USES

Botox has been approved by the FDA for treatment of only about a half-dozen problems, including:
*Uncontrollable blinking (blepharospasm).
*Misaligned eyes (strabismus).
*A neurological movement disorder that causes severe neck and shoulder contractions (cervical dystonia).
*Severe underarm sweating that does not respond to other treatments (primary axillary hyperhidrosis).
*Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines).

However, it is actually being used for many more conditions including:

*bladder control problems, back pain and migraines, and for cosmetic purposes other than frown lines... even though these uses have not actually been approved by the FDA. It's worrisome, says Dr. Stengler, and here's why:

*Side effects can cause serious complications. Common side effects of Botox, no matter how it's used, include pain, tenderness or bruising at the injection site. But some additional adverse reactions depend on where it is injected. For example, when Botox shots are given in the eye area, it can cause droopy eyelids, dry eyes and double vision. Side effects from an injection in the neck could include pain, difficulty swallowing and headache. Side effects depend on the individual and, fortunately, are not believed to be cumulative.

*The injections are tricky to administer, even with experience. Even in the right hands, Botox injections may go awry. Given by doctors who aren't experienced and well-trained in its use, Botox can have disastrous results, including temporary paralysis where you don't want it. If you are considering Botox injections for any reason, make sure the shot is given by a physician skilled and experienced in its use -- and know that there is always some risk of adverse effects.

*Botox injections are painful. Not everyone finds these injections even tolerable, let alone worth undergoing relative to the problem they are supposed to solve. To treat migraine or other chronic headaches, for instance, a series of 25 to 30 injections in the forehead, neck and/or shoulders every three months may be required. The "solution" may be worse than the problem.

*Effectiveness is not guaranteed. Botox doesn't always work... and sometimes works too well, temporarily paralyzing more muscle than intended.
Botox is expensive. Without FDA approval, insurance is unlikely to cover the cost of Botox injections for off-label use -- which may go as high as $2,000 for the course of treatment if multiple injections are required.

*Long-term safety is unknown. No one knows the long-term health implications of using Botox. It has been on the market just since 1989. Doctors are routinely injecting higher and more frequent doses than those used in research studies. As noted above, Botox is often injected multiple times, sometimes in multiple sites -- every three months over a period of years. If you just assume it is safe because a doctor is delivering the injection, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Adding to the fear factor is the fact that while post market studies are required by the FDA for Botox and other drugs in their approved uses, as well as the monitoring of adverse event data, there is no agency review for off-label use. However, if the FDA finds a pattern of harmful off-label use, it may take action, "if" being the key word.

THINK TWICE BEFORE USING BOTOX Before opting for Botox treatment -- for approved conditions and even more so for unapproved uses -- carefully consider the risks versus the benefits. Evaluate other medical treatment options, both conventional and naturopathic and keep in mind that even in purified states, Botox is a toxin.

2. Batteries: Rechargeables and single-use: Battery Solutions, 734/467-9110, www.batteryrecycling.com.

3. Cardboard boxes: Contact local nonprofits and women's shelters to see if they can use them. Or, offer them up at your local Freecycle.org listserv or on Craigslist.org. If your workplace collects at least 100 boxes or more each month, UsedCardboardBoxes.com accepts them for resale.

ORGANIC Happy Hour
I was very pleased with the turnout of this event. Thank you once again for those of you that attended the event and got a chance to experience a true ORGANIC drink for your social outing. My main goal was to cross network and introduce the wonderful GREEN businesses that I have been both working and networking with to one another. Since we are representing a GREEN company, we are trying to find effective ways to use products & materials that are biodegradable and less harmful to the environment.

The disposable sheets used for Laser & Electrolysis treatment are not biodegradable. They take up a lot of space and consume too much trash. Honi has come up with an action plan to provide her treatments, save the environment and at the same time invest the money used in disposable sheets towards helping out her charit(Earth Conservation Corp www.ecc1.org). Currently we are spending approximately $2400 a year on these disposable sheets that the state regulation requires to use in the treatment room. Thus, we are asking you to please bring in your BEACH TOWEL when you have an appointment with Honi for Laser & Electrolysis treatment (must be long enough to cover the treatment bed, 72"). For every client that brings in his/her towel during the services, we keep track and Honi will donate 1/2 the money spent on disposible towels ($1200) at the end of the year, to Earth Conservation Corp.

The restaurant/lounge you like could care less about sustainability! You are frustrated because you want to share your ideas and network with thoughtful minded people who think the same way you do.

WELL don't look any further. Starting August, I am organizing a GREEN Happy Hour once a month on a Friday from 5-7pm at Hoang's Grill Restaurant in Falls Church, Virginia. Only ORGANIC drinks

What can U do to help the Envorionment?

I recently flew home to California. As we were landing at San Francisco International Airport, a guy sitting next me commented on how beautiful the Pacific was, but how polluted and dirty the San Francisco Bay seemed to be. Unfortunately, it's true.

The sad thing is that we are causing most of this damage—and a considerable amount of it is undoable. There is some good news. The UN recently released a series of reports on climate change and preliminary steps on how to mitigate the damage. At the G8 summit, leaders of the largest economic powers also agreed to work on a framework to combat climate change. But, the reality is that we cannot simply wait for politicians and big companies to make changes. Every single person has to pledge to reduce their own energy consumption if we have any hopes of mitigating the effects of climate change.

This is not as hard as it may sound. In fact, there a number of things that everyone can do that are both easy and painless.

Lights: Replace as many bulbs as you can with florescent bulbs. They use less energy, last infinitely longer and are strangely addicting. And remember, turn off lights when you a leave a room and try to use natural light as much as possible (and since sunlight also makes people happier, there's no reason why you shouldn't open up your blinds for some light!) Then, check your electricity bill at the end of the month. You'll see how it's paid off.

Heating and Cooling: Set your thermostat for your heating and cooling units at 80 during the summer and 55 for the winter. Enjoy the seasons! Wear those summer dresses during the summer. After all, it's the summer! There's no reason to keep your house or office so cold that you need to wear a sweater indoors and having to carry a sweater to work when it's 90 outside just because your office is freezing is annoying anyway! And, use the winter weather as an excuse to cuddle under a blanket, not to wear tanks and shorts around the house. Ask your employers to also make these changes so that you can be comfortable at work as well.

Recycle: Recycle. It's pretty simple. Unfortunately, not all places have bins readily available. But there are two easy steps you can take: 1) call your municipal government and urge them to take recycling more seriously and 2) pack your recycling items and take them home to recycle. I know it sounds strange to carry your trash around, but remember an empty soda bottle or a couple of sheets of paper don't weight that much. It's really not hard to stick them in your bag and take them home to recycle instead of just throwing them away and filling up landfills. And then remember to buy recycled!

Recycle more: Remember, you can throw food scraps—like banana peels and potato skins and even tea bags into a yard waste recycling bin. They'll get turned into fertilizer that already has nutrients in them (thereby reducing the need for chemical fertilizers that find their way into your food and water supplies.)

Plastic Bags: Plastic bags are bad for the environment. So, use less of them. If you buy a small item from CVS, stick it in your purse and bypass the plastic bag. Also, when you get lunch to go and you only have to walk a block back to your office, do you really need to put the giant plastic container of food in a plastic bag? Just carry it! Cut down on as much plastic packaging as you can and notice how much emptier your trash can is at the end of the day.

Chow time! How many napkins do you actually use while eating a meal? Two? Three? If you are a really messy eater—maybe 5? Do you really need to take a stack of napkins when you grab lunch? Also, do you really need a spoon, a fork, a knife and a straw when eating a sandwich? Take only what you need! The same goes for napkins in public restrooms—if you can dry your hands with one paper towel, do you really need to take three? This is the most painless way to cut down on waste, but it's so effective! Try it. I promise you won't miss those extra napkins!

Buy local: Gas pollutes. We all know that. We all try to take public transportation or walk when possible to cut down on the distances we drive. But what about our food? Do you really need tomatoes that have traveled 250 miles in a gas guzzling truck to get to your door? Go to your local farmer's market and buy food that was grown locally and therefore doesn't have the carbon baggage of transportation attached to it. And, as an added advantage—produce from a farmer's market has less pesticides and hormones and are fresher as it is. It's a win-win situation.

Tell Congress: The government needs to also act and do everything from making government buildings more environmentally friendly to passing legislations on a number of issues. Calling your congressman or senator does work! The best strategy is to call your local congressman or the senators from your state and ask to speak to their energy staffer. They are the ones who recommend policies and even a few calls can help sway their opinions! http://www.house.gov/writerep/

Talk! Talk about being Green with your friends! Look for new products and suggestions on how to save energy and ways on how to be more green. There are constantly advances in technology—ranging from solar panels for laptops to environmentally friendly carpets to simple energy saving ideas (for example, check out: www.blackle.com/about.) Then, share your successes and frustration. Inspire others to reduce their own energy consumption. This is only going to work if we work together!

And, remember—the average American consumes the same amount of energy as the average Blue Whale (that's the largest animal in the world.) We can do better. Let this be the start of your own personal challenge to reduce your own energy consumption by 5, 10 or 20% over the next 5 years. You might be surprised at how easy it is.

Save Those Batteries

So you have used batteries laying around and want to get rid of them, especially the ones that make all sorts of noise from your children's toys. But WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't throw them in the trash. Bring them to us and we will dispose them properly.

WHY should you care: Because batteries contain lead and mercury, which are harmful to the environment. When it rains, these contaminants can be washed into waterways or septic systems and pollute streams, rivers, lakes and drinking water. Batteries and other household cleaners and paint should be dropped off at special collection sites.
